Credit giant Ares hires new partner
Ares Management is beefing up its local credit business with a key hire.
Street Talk can reveal Credit Suisse’s head of asset finance for Asia Pacific, Will Farrant, has joined the US investment giant as a partner in its credit group.
There, he will lead alternative credit investing in Australia and New Zealand and seek to advance the firm’s credit strategy across the Asia-Pacific region.
Farrant will also bring across his junior, Ruby Lau, who served as a director at Credit Suisse in the asset finance team.
“We are excited to welcome Will and leverage the depth of his experience to invest in asset-focused opportunities across the Australia and New Zealand market,” said Edwin Wong, partner and head of Ares Asia.
“We look forward to working with Will and our teams across Ares’ global platform to continue to develop our private credit strategies in the region.”
Farrant is well known in the market, having been heavily involved in securitisation transactions stretching back to before the global financial crisis. He started in asset-backed security syndication and origination at Credit Suisse in 2005, before moving up to head for debt capital markets and head of asset finance.
With Farrant’s appointment, Ares now has senior teams in Australia focused on special situations, direct lending, infrastructure debt and alternative credit. The alternative investment manager has $378 billion in assets under management.
